Anne Johanssen is a 32 year old life long non-smoker with a history of mild asthma, previously well controlled with inhalers, but no other significant medical history. She has recently run out of her 'blue' inhaler.
She presented to the emergency department after several hours of coughing and difficulty in breathing, with a shorter history of rapid onset of unilateral chest pain and worsening shortness of breath.
Examination findings
Pulse - 90 beats per minute at rest
Blood pressure - 120/80
Respiratory rate - 18 per minute
Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) is 70% of predicted
She is able to speak in full sentences
